Policies and Actions For Discussion

The Alberta Next Panel is touring the provinces to hear from Albertans on how our province can better protect ourselves from Ottawa’s attacks, while building a more prosperous, strong and sovereign Alberta within Canada.

A provincial referendum on some of these ideas is coming in 2026 but what’s on that ballot will be informed by your feedback.

Below are our initial policy ideas and actions for discussion. They may be modified throughout the tour based on your feedback.

Provincial Police Force

Ending Alberta’s contract with the RCMP for provincial policing in our communities and establishing an Alberta Provincial Police Service

Alberta Pension Plan

Withdrawing from the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and establishing a new Alberta Pension Plan where Albertans would save and collect benefits from.

Tax Collection

Withdrawing from the joint tax collection agreement with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and having Albertans instead file their income taxes with the province of Alberta

Immigration

Taking over more control of immigration to Alberta to insulate the province from the damage of out-of-control immigration policy from Ottawa.

Constitutional Changes

Working with other provinces to pressure the federal government to amend the Canadian Constitution to empower and better protect provincial rights.

Federal Transfers and Equalization

Working to reform federal transfers and the equalization program which sees Alberta contribute $23 billion more annually than it receives in services and transfers from Ottawa.

Is this about Alberta separating from Canada?

No, Alberta Next is about exploring the ideas and policies to assert our sovereignty and constitutional rights within a united Canada. After decades of unfairness and mistreatment, we must stand up for our people, economy and shared future as Canadians.

Who can attend the townhalls?

All Albertans are welcome, so long as they are behaving respectfully.

What kinds of policy ideas will be discussed?

Our initial list of discussion items can be found here. We will modify the list and discussion based on your feedback throughout the process.

Will there be a referendum in 2026?

Yes. Ideas and discussion from the Alberta Next process will inform the questions put forward to Albertans for a vote in 2026 to assert our sovereignty and constitutional rights within a united Canada.
